My recent stay at the Hotel Boulderado in Downtown Boulder was nothing short of exceptional. Situated right off Pearl Street, the hotel offers easy access to ample shopping, restaurants, and entertainment options, making it the perfect choice for a memorable and convenient stay.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the hotel is its rich historic background. The property opened New Year’s Day in 1909 and has become synonymous with celebration. Each year, on New Year’s Eve, the hotel commemorates its opening by organizing a special event. It’s a wonderful tradition that brings together guests and locals alike to enjoy a night of fun inside the hotel!
Architects designed the hotel around a central court, which adds to its unique charm. The court features stunning stained-glass ceilings imported all the way from Italy. These intricate designs create a captivating ambiance, truly transporting you to a different era. It’s a visual delight that adds to the hotel’s overall appeal.
Another fun tidbit is the hotel’s history with alcohol during the Prohibition era. After 60 long years, the Hotel Boulderado was one of the first properties to receive a liquor license once prohibition was lifted. This significant milestone allowed them to become a prime place to enjoy a cocktail. An ode to that time is their current bar, License No. 1, a cool underground lounge that exudes speakeasy vibes. It’s the perfect spot to unwind and indulge in incredible craft cocktails while enjoying live music and rotating entertainment throughout the seasons. Currently, they host a weekly comedy night that is simply unforgettable!
Aside from License No. 1, the hotel also offers the Corner Bar, an on-site eatery. Here, you can savor pub-style casual fare that is both high quality and delicious. The happy hour specials and divine martinis are a hit among locals, making it a favorite spot in Boulder. Its wrap-around patio is the ideal setting for summertime dining, allowing you to soak in the vibrant atmosphere while enjoying a satisfying meal.
You can also grab a meal from Spruce Farm & Fish which is in the original dining space, which has served guests meals since the opening of the hotel. I highly recommend their brunch!
As for accommodations, the Hotel Boulderado strikes the perfect balance between historic charm and contemporary comfort. The North Wing boasts renovated rooms that are luxurious and refreshing, providing a more modern experience for guests. On the other hand, the main wing offers beautifully preserved historic rooms that transport you back in time, showcasing the hotel’s original elegance. Personally, I find these historic rooms to be my favorite, as they are unlike anything you’ll find in other hotels. Each room has its own unique story, making your stay even more special. For those interested in delving further into the hotel’s history, I highly recommend scheduling a historical tour during your stay. It’s an enlightening experience that truly adds depth to your visit.
It’s no surprise that the Hotel Boulderado has received numerous accolades for its exceptional service and accommodations. In 2019, it was awarded a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor, and in 2020, it received the prestigious Traveler’s Choice Award. These recognitions speak volumes about the hotel’s commitment to providing a memorable and satisfying stay for its guests.
If you’re looking for a cozy and inviting hotel with a fascinating history, the Hotel Boulderado is the perfect choice. With its prime location, historic charm, and exceptional amenities, it truly offers a one-of-a-kind experience. Whether you’re visiting Boulder for business or pleasure, this hotel is sure to exceed your expectations and leave you with cherished memories.
